PARENTING

Almost all behaviors human beings engage in are learnt. We also know that some of what we have learnt has not served our best interest. Every parent wants to be successful in parenting his or her child. However parenting is a skill; and like all other skills, tend to be more successful when time is taken to learn the significant elements, and then to apply them effectively. Some skills may be inherent; parenting is not one of them. The advantage that this skill affords both the child and the parent(s) are undeniable and is evident in the overall well being of everyone.

It has been noted that two out of five children experience significant anxiety before age 12; and one in five have experienced a serious mental health disorder at some point in their life that was debilitating. Smart parenting would definitely have a positive impact on helping the child to grow into a confident, competent, and cooperative adult.  Take the time to change your mindset and attend a parenting workshop.

Text Box: Parenting is defined as individuals “raising” a child. The task might seem less daunting if we were to think of molding or shaping our children into the best human beings they could possibly be. Discipline are those strong hands that gently, but firmly provide the safety and boundary that allows the child to feel safe as their character take shape. All children want to be hear and can be very communicators when they feel they are being listened to and validated.

This is one way to communicate, but no one is listening.

Children are wonderful communicators once they feel someone is listening. Encourage your children to invite their friends to your homes, where once there you are able to engage them in a manner that models the values and expectations of your home. Remember “it takes a village to raise a child” as part of the community you are part of the village.
